CENTRE Iain Gordon is convinced Halifax RUFC will bounce back sooner rather than later following their opening National Three (North) defeat by Preston Grasshoppers last weekend.
Although disappointed by the 24-13 reversal at Ovenden Park, Gordon immediately looked for the positives and believes it will be a different outcome as Rhys Morgan's side make the short trip to take on Huddersfield on Saturday.
"It was the first game so we cannot go reading too much into the result at this stage," said Gordon, who has been moved to the centre alongside James Endersby this season after spending the previous campaign at stand off.
"You have to remember that some of the players haven't been at the club that long and we have a largely new pack, so there are going to be things that we still need to work on.
"I don't think anybody is too worried at the moment. Obviously we come away from a game like the one against Preston and we are disappointed.
"We could be accused of letting the game slip away and lack of discipline at key times certainly didn't help.
"But we will re-group and I am sure we will get a result from the Huddersfield game on Saturday."
Gordon will also be vying for the goalkicker's role this season along with new stand off Craig Barker.
And Gordon staked an early claim with three successful kicks against Grasshoppers, including one within the opening minute of the game.
"I was pleased because even when I didn't hit one well it still went over and that shows that my technique is improving", added Gordon. "I must admit I was a bit worried before the season started but I have worked hard. I have put a lot of hours into my kicking and I hope that will pay off
"It was good to have such an early opportunity on Saturday because of the nerves and it was great to see it go over. That settled me down.
"There is a lot to work to do as far as playing 12 again is concerned, but Rhys and Dave Harrison are great people to learn from.
"The main thing is that I am just enjoying playing rugby."
