WHIPPET-like winger Gareth Brear enjoys life at Halifax so much he is happy to drive miles for his weekly fix of rugby union.
The former Rotherham player makes a 280-mile round trip from his Lichfield home twice a week for training and for Saturday home games.
It is an incredible effort by anybody's standards - particularly at this level of the game.
But it is one he is happy to take in his stride
Even so today's National Three (North) jaunt to Nuneaton must come as something of a relief for the young back, being a round trip of around 43 miles.
Brear obviously doesn't mind hitting the road to play for a club he has genuine affection for.
"I love it," he said. "On top of that, I get on really well with the lads. They are a good bunch and despite the fact that we are struggling to pick up a win, it is a good club to be at."
Brear's name didn't crop up during the re-building programme leading some to believe that he would not be coming back.
But while not entirely rejecting the notion that he became something of a 'forgotten' man during early summer, Brear was always confident he would return to Halifax.
"I don't know if I was forgotten but I wasn't really surprised to be back at Halifax," added Brear. "The club have been really good to me and I thought it would be good to give it another season.
"I knew during pre-season that I wanted to come back. I had a bit of time off, then when I received a phone call from Rhys I said 'yes' straight away."
Brear was one the current squad members who suffered so badly last season when Halifax managed just three wins, one in the National Trophy, in a miserable campaign.
And he could be forgiven for feeling a sense of deja vu this time around with Halifax yet to record a victory after the first three games.
But Brear has the optimism that comes with youth and he firmly believes that the club will turn the corner once the team really start to gel
"As far as the first couple of results are concerned, I think we have struggled because of the fact that we have a brand new team," he said
"It always takes a bit of time to get to know one another and fit in with how everybody plays.
"It started to come together in the first half against Leicester. We were by far the dominant side.
"But then we made a few stupid mistakes, our heads went down and it just became a repeat of the previous week at Huddersfield."
Brear also believes it is too early to set the alarm bells ringing with the season less than a month old.
"I don't feel it is a worry that our heads go down, not at this early stage," he said.
"We have had some really good training sessions where everybody is feeling pretty positive.
"We just need to be more ruthless, impose ourselves on teams and work hard to get out of this losing habit.
"The spirit is definitely there but we need to close games down.
"That is our major problem. It is holding us back and it something we all need to work together to change.
"We just have to get some wins under our belts because that will lift the confidence for everybody.
"I think after the first one we will be on the train then and more will follow.
"I have every faith in the players here.
"It will come."
