Nuneaton v Halifax RUFC: James calling for calm

JAMES Endersby is urging his Halifax RUFC teammates to stick together in the wake of a third defeat of the new National Three (North) season last Saturday.
The last thing the dual-code centre wants to see is the players rounding on each other as frustration and disappointment increase following another difficult start to a season.
Last weekend's 57-13 mauling by Leicester Lions was the second home reversal of the campaign and, according to Endersby, emphasised just how tough life is going to be in their new surroundings.
"We were expecting it to be a tough league and so far that has been the case," said Endersby. "We didn't come in expecting it to be an easy ride. There are clubs in this league who have pumped a lot of money into their squads.
"But we have got to hang in there, stick together as a team and win some games.
"What we haven't got to do is start to get on each other's backs. We must start taking things forward in a positive way."
There was plenty to suggest that Halifax had enough quality to trouble unbeaten Leicester, particularly in a hugely-encouraging first half.
However, the way they capitulated in the second period - conceding 40 points without reply in the process - is an obvious area for concern.
"I think a lot of it comes down to desire and commitment and that was there in the first half," added Endersby.
"The second half ran away from us and it is always difficult when you are playing catch up.
"Even when they scored a try early in the second half we were still in touch.
"But again we shoot ourselves in the foot. We get a good position then turn the ball over and they're back up our end of the field and score a try.
"Fair play to Leicester, they were the better team overall. They have quality throughout the side and they took every advantage to kill us.
"But we just let our heads drop in the second half and it was always going to be an uphill battle.
"When you have 50 points put past you, you just want the ground to swallow you up."
Endersby is in no doubt that another good week on the training paddock will see the players chomping at the bit ahead of this weekend's clash at former National Two foes Nuneaton.
"If we can take that first 40 minutes against Leicester and build on it, then we have a chance.
"It will come right – we will put it right."
