RHYS Morgan is calling on his players to show more mental as well as physical toughness as they look the get their National Three (North) season up and running at the fourth time of asking at Nuneaton tomorrow (2.0).
Halifax ran out of steam, and confidence, during the second half of last Saturday's crushing 57-13 home defeat by Leicester Lions - areas Morgan believes the players have to work on if they are to challenge teams for the full 80 minutes.
And he has warned that anybody not able to meet the demands will see their place under threat.
"We can't sit around waiting for guys to reach the required levels both in terms of fitness and mental toughness," said Morgan.
"The players have to show some personal pride in their attitude and performances and if that means going an extra mile to build up fitness levels then that is how it has to be.
"Nobody should be under any illusions that if they can't do that their place will be under threat.
"And while we can't go out with a big shopping list, we will look around to bring other players in if neccessary."
Halifax will have their confidence tested against former Halifax RLFC star Mike Umaga's Nuneaton at Liberty Way tomorrow, foes they know well from their recent National Two days, with a home game against high-flying Fylde to come the week after.
"It certainly doesn't get any easier," said Morgan. "Make no mistake these next couple of weeks are going to be tough.
"Both Nuneaton and Fylde are two of the teams I would back to be there or thereabouts at the top of the table come the end of the season.
"But there is still no reason why we shouldn't go down to Nuneaton and get a result.
"We have to start looking at digging ourselves out of the position we are in and that is where added mental toughness will come into play.
"Players heads did go down a little bit in the second half last Saturday when we should really have been thinking about ways of clawing the game back.
"There is still a lot of belief that we are capable of turning teams over and a lot of disbelief at where we are at the moment.
"But everybody is staying positive and focused and we believe our turn will come."
Morgan has one or two players carrying slight knocks from the Leicester game and they did not train on Tuesday night as a precautionary measure.
However, he expects everybody to be fit for tomorrow and will make some last minute decisions before finalising his squad.
lTOMORROW'S game will be played on Nuneaton's second pitch at Liberty Way but the clubhouse will be open as usual.
