TALKS have been held between Halifax RUFC's Chairman of Rugby Graham Allan, head coach Rhys Morgan and Richard Szabo designed to bring the former Yorkshire front row forward back into the fold.
And Courier Sport believes the conversations will indeed lead to Szabo returning to Ovenden Park in a revised coaching role.
Szabo announced he was quitting the club after talks regarding his future appeared to have broken down.
But having held discussions with Allan and Morgan, Szabo has intimated he would be happy to become involved again.
"It really was nothing more than a storm in a teacup," confirmed Allan. "I had a conversation with Richard where I was asked to commit myself to telling him whether he had a role to play next season.
"I told him that I couldn't do that at that moment because I had to speak to other people such as the club executive.
"Richard took that to mean that we didn't want him.
"We have been looking to appoint a forwards coach who could also help to run the second team.
"Richard turned that opportunity down so we planned to retain his services as a specialist forwards coach on a session only basis for the remainder of this season and next.
"It appears he is happy to do that and we are delighted that Richard has said he would like to stay on board."
Szabo intends to take a few days to think things through after which it is expected to be business as usual
"At the end of the day all I wanted to do was stay at Halifax," said Szabo. "People were getting re-signed around me and I couldn't understand why I was at the end of the line.
"But having spoken again to Graham and to Rhys, I would like to think I can stay on board and in a revised role.
"What is being suggested would suit me because as well as work I am doing a university degree in Education training and that has to take priority.
"There has certainly been no falling out. It was very civilised but a little unfortunate."
Meanwhile, Allan shed further light on Halifax's decision to drop out of this season's Yorkshire Cup competition.
It was feared that Halifax would not be able to assemble a fully fit squad to make the trip to Beverley next Tuesday evening.
"I contacted Keith Dyas at Yorkshire and he was very sympathetic," said Allan. "I also conveyed our apologies to Beverley.
"It is a pity because we are a competitive team and we don't take these decisions lightly.
"But we were struggling to get a squad together while we could not afford to pick up any more injuries because if you don't fulfil fixtures in the National League then you run the risk of being expelled."
