Victory was on the cards, says Brown

BACK row forward Richard Brown was confident Halifax would savour another victory this season and wasn't too surprised that it came last Saturday against Waterloo.
The powerful No 8 has become more effective week on week and it was his strong breaks and fearless tackling that played a major part in helping Halifax to a welcome and richly-deserved 20-7 success.

The previous week's outing against Blackheath had, according to Brown, given every Halifax player the confidence to take on a Waterloo side who had endured a miserable National Two campaign on the road having picked up just two victories and a draw away from Blundellsands.

"It was just a massive relief to win a game," admitted Brown, who also filled the No 8 shirt for Halifax's previous league victory - a 37-34 success over Southend way back in September.

"It is an awsome feeling compared to what we have been used to this season.

"We had been threatening to produce a decent result, particularly after the Blackheath game when we deserved to win.

"We just took that on another level and it was a good performance. We fully deserved our success against a very good Waterloo side.

"There were some last minute changes as far as our team were concerned which could have disrupted the planning so we have to be very happy with the result."

Brown added that he felt surprised that it had taken Halifax so long to register their second league win but believed it did owe a lot to confidence.

"I cannot put my finger on why it has taken so long to win again except to say that I think it has to go down to a lack of confidence," he said.

"But that confidence has been building over the last couple of weeks and we knew we still had another win in us.

"All the players had something to prove both to ourselves and each other and we wanted the result more than Waterloo did."

And he sees no reason why Halifax cannot repeat the feat in their final outing of the season at Threshfield this weekend.

"We are know looking towards the last game of the season at Wharfedale on Saturday and hoping that we can do something there.

"We can certainly travel with a lot more confidence.

"It is also very important that the club go into next season on a positive note."
