FC Halifax Town 2 Wakefield FC 1

ASHLEY Stott scored in each half as FC Halifax Town booked their place in the first round of the Unibond League Cup.
The striker fired home an equaliser 11 minutes before half time after Jay Sobers had bagged a stunning opener for the visitors.
And Stott struck again with 14 minutes remaining to book a home first round tie with Curzon Ashton on November 4.
It was never plain sailing for the Shaymen despite impressive displays from newcomers Scott Phelan and Danny Ellis.
And it proved to be a disappointing evening for Danny Davidson on his full debut as he was twice denied by the linesman when he had the ball in the net.
Wakefield gave Town a stern examination in the first half before fading after the break, much like Town who were not able to take full advantage.
Halifax opened brightly but Stott and Ellis both fired over as the Shaymen failed to trouble ex-Town keeper Andy Woods in the Wakefield goal.
The visitors almost broke through after 10 minute when Ashley Westcarr fired in a shot that skimmed the top of the bar.
But it was Town who continued to make the running with a Jonathan Smith free kick knocked behind for a corner and Woods saving at Stott's feet.
There were signs that Wakefield were settling in the 20th minute when Chris Howarth got in a shot on the turn, but his connection was poor.
And two minutes later Sobers was allowed far too much space to run into before unleashing a 30-yard shot that gave Jon Kennedy in the Halifax goal no chance.
Having taken the lead, Wakefield grew in confidence and they almost doubled their advantage in the 26th minute, a Sobers shot rebounding off a post onto the back of Kennedy's head and behind for a corner.
And Howarth smashed a shot into the side netting when well placed soon after.
It was almost against the run of play that the Shaymen levelled in the 34th minute from a long Kennedy clearance.
Davidson got up well to flick the ball on and Stott raced into the area to fire past Woods.
Town might have gone into the break in front but for Woods who saved well from Morning, after he had cut in from the right, and Jonathan Smith, who fired in a shot following a half cleared corner.
But Wakefield had their chances as well, the best falling to Howarth after a defensive mix-up but he was denied by Kennedy.
Wakefield had few opportunities after the break as the Shaymen took control.
Davidson thought he had scored in the 51st minute when the ball appeared to run loose after Woods collided with a defender, but the linesman's flag signalled a free kick to the visitors.
And the best move of the game, involving Morning and Ellis on the left, ended with a cross that Davidson slid in to meet at the far post only to fire wide.
The big frontman was harshly judged to have been offside just past the hour mark as he slid home a Lincoln Adams through ball.
And Davidson was in the thick of it again soon after, putting another effort over the top as he stretched for the ball.
Wakefield's only real chance fell to Adam Jones who had an effort blocked by Adams.
And Stott eventually spared a sparse crowd from extra time when he bagged a 76th minute winner.
There was a touch of fortune in the build up with Ellis mis-hitting a shot from Peter Moore's cross, but the finish from Stott at the far post was clinical.
