TOWN extended their winning run to a record-equalling seven games as they opened up a three-point leads at the top of Unibond One North.
But they had to come from behind to beat Chorley at the Shay.

  • Halifax were distinctly below par in the first half when they were unable to make any real inroads.
The front three were isolated and the midfield had to work overtime as the ball kept coming straight back at them.
There was a marked improvement after the break - but there had to be.
And Ashley Stott's 15th of the season, Paul Gedman's first since becoming a permanent Shaymen and Tony Barras's first of the season saw them home.
And with Bamber Bridge losing at Wakefield, Newcastle Blue Star going down at home to Curzon Ashton and Ossett Albion drawing with Skelmersdale, it proved to be an extremely good day for the Shaymen.
Chorley might have opened the scoring as early as the fourth minute when Kieran Fletcher played the ball through for Jordan Goodeve who turned well six yards from goal but fired wide.
At the other end, Brown jinked his way through a series of attempted tackles before coming up against one defender too many.
And when Tom Baker spread the ball wide to the right for Cavell Coo, the right back crossed and Gedman had a volley deflected behind for a corner.
Brown headed wide from a Baker free kick soon after, but despite their industry there was precious little end product from the Shaymen.
Chorley started to gain in confidence with Adam Crossley firing into Jon Kennedy's arms after 23 minutes.
And within 60 seconds they were ahead as Chris Ward lifted the ball over the Town defence, Crossley ran through and went round Kennedy before firing into a empty net.
It could have been worse for Halifax three minutes later when a deep corner on the left was retrieved by Fletcher whose cross rebounded to Michael West on the edge of the area, but his well-struck shot flew over the bar.
Gedman knocked down a Scott Phelan ball for Brown, who was robbed by a defender as he was about to pull the trigger.
And Brown created Town's best moment of the first half in the 42nd minute with a great run down the left.
His cross was deflected by defender Chris Smalley which did enough to make it difficult for Ajay Leitch-Smith, who was sliding in, but he could only direct the ball the wrong side of the post.
That chance seemed to give Town something on which to build in the second half and they were quickly out of the blocks.
Stott almost pounced on James Mullineux's misplaced back pass within a couple of minutes of the re-start, forcing the ball wide from where Gedman crossed just too far in front of Stott and Leitch-Smith.
Three minutes later the breakthrough came after Tom Baker's cross from the right got through to Brown who was dragged down by Ashley Parillion.
The referee pointed straight to the spot and Stott kept a cool head to drill the ball into the net.
Eight minutes later Stott's ball in from the left was hoofed over his own goal by the swinging leg of a defender.
The resulting Brown corner was half cleared to Barras who returned it into the danger area.
The Chorley defence allowed it to bounce and Gedman was in like a flash to hammer a left foot shot into the back of the net.
Gavin Ellison and Roger Sharrock both tried their luck from distance, but neither was ever going to beat Kennedy.
At the other end, Leitch-Smith's bid for a debut goal was thwarted when Peter Collinge tipped his dipping effort over the bar and when a Brown shot rebounded off a defender and landed at Phelan's feet, he fired over the top.
And late on Gedman found Leitch-Smith whose dangerous looking cross was beaten away by the keeper.
Chorley had a lot of late possession without really threatening to get back on terms, the closest they came being when Kris King miskicked an attempted clearance and Matthew Walsh fired wide.
And the result was finally put beyond all doubt in the second minute of injury time when Phelan won a corner on the right, Brown sent the ball over and Barras rose above everyone to head home.

    STAR SHAYMAN
There cannot have been a blade of grass on the Shay pitch not trodden at some point during Saturday's game by Scott Phelan.
The midfielder put in the tackles, cleaned up any loose balls and passed as well as any of his teammates.
It was one of those days when he was as likely to pop up on the edge of his own area as the opposition's.
Junior Brown again provided the impetus for the Shaymen to get into the game.
It was his run on the stroke of half time that gave everyone hope and when he was bundled over early in the second period Ashley Stott was able to level from the spot.
He also supplied the delivery from the corners which led to goals from Paul Gedman and Tony Barras.
Phelan's midfield partner Tom Baker put in another shift, crunching into the challenges and spraying the passes. And even when he was reduced to one good leg he was desperate to continue.
Phelan takes the three points on offer in our season-long competition with Brown two and Baker one.

    PLAYER POINTS
Junior Brown 21, Jonathan Smith 16, Scott Phelan 11, Colin Daniel 10, Peter Moore 10, Ashley Stott 9, Paul Gedman 9, Tom Baker 9, Jon Kennedy 6, Cavell Coo 5, Adam Morning 4, Lincoln Adams 4, Steve Payne 3, Nigel Jemson 2, Craig Smith 2, Justin Walker 2, Damien Allen 2, Phil Senior 1, Luke Hinsley 2.

Very constructive Farang. Do you actually have an interest in FC Halifax Town or is your sad existence so pathetic you have to lighten you day with such pointless drivel?

While every praise is due for the success of the present team, I fail to see how it can be "record equalling" when the club hasn't been in existance for six months...unless I'm missing the point?

also i would like to say how chilled out it is watching the shaymen, you dont have to watch your back, unlike it would have been down the road between 2 clubs with a violent trouble making following, im talking about leeds and hudds of course it was no surprise to see there were a number of arrests despite the 12.15 kick off, come watch the shaymen and watch footie in peace
