THE Unibond League is set to accept a Halifax team into its division one north.

After weeks of negotiations the consortium finally accepted defeat in trying to re-start the club at a higher level up the football league pyramid.

Unibond League secretary Phil Bradley confirmed the news to the Courier after Friday's lunchtime deadline was extended, because the consortium had accepted conditions of membership but not the division.

"The business consortium has now accepted its team will be playing in Unibond Division One North," he said.

"We would expect everything to go through at tomorrow's annual meeting.

"We told the consortium a place in our premier division was not for discussion."

The consortium last week appealed against Halifax Town's expulsion from the Football Conference and that failed.

Last month creditors rejected a rescue package put together by the consortium for the club which went into adminstration in March with more than £2 million debts.

AFTER another dramatic day of events for Halifax Town it has been revealed the consortium was backed into a corner by the Unibond League.

It was given an ultimatum to accept division one north this afternoon or the offer would be given to the Halifax Town Supporters' Trust.

The consortium relented and now fans are hoping for a new era of openness.

The Unibond League kept the trust involved of developments today and it was ready to step and save football at the Shay if the consortium walked.

"We were advised by the Unibond League that there would be no chance of an appeal being successful. They also advised us that they had been told by David Bosomworth that the consortium had no interest in Unibond one north," said a Trust statement.

"We now appeal to the consortium to swiftly call a public meeting with the aim of bringing together, as one, all supporters to ensure the club moves forward positively.

"A number of decisions have to be made – such as the name of the new club – and consultation with the supporters should be carried out in this regard.

"Finally, we wish the consortium all the very best in providing the supporters with a club that they can be proud of and the Trust looks forward to meeting with the consortium in due course."


Friday 13 June 1.30pm
THE consortium has made an application for Halifax Town to join the Unibond League next season.
But it is not plain sailing and further information is being sought from the businessmen this afternoon.
The 1 pm deadline has now been extended and the crucial issue surrounds acceptance of which division a reformed Halifax club will compete in.
The consortium accepts the league's conditions but is questionning being put in Unibond League Division One North rather than the Unibond Premier Division.
The division one placing was allocated by the FA League's Committee.
"That has nothing to do with us," said Unibond league secretary Phil Bradley.
"We are trying to clarify what they are talking about - they are not playing in our premier division so it is still up in the air."

LESS than three hours remain for an application to be lodged with the Unibond League.
By mid-morning the league still had not received a response to its 1 pm deadline.
"There has been no application for membership," said league secretary Phil Bradley.
The consortium was asked to confirm the conditions of membership and the league would then plan for next season at tomorrow's annual meeting with a Halifax team in the Unibond League Division One North.
League chief executive Duncan Bayley said the pending place in division one north had been offered by the FA League's Committee following expulsion from the Football Conference.
"We are seeking an application at this stage, nothing more than that," said Mr Bayley.
A further deadline of 5 pm on Tuesday, June 24, has then been set to meet the conditions which include:
* Playing at the Shay.
* Forming a business plan.
* Depositing £5,000 which will be refunded in full if the reformed club meet its obligations for the 2008/2009 season.
Speculation at the club reforming in the Unibond Premier was dismissed by Mr Bayley.
"The decision has been made by the Leagues Committee. There is no vacancy in the premier division."

Halifax Town could discover their fate this Wednesday when the Football Association are expected to hear their appeal against the Conference ruling that the club is not eligible to play in the league.
The Shaymen's future was not discussed at the Conference's two-hour agm held in Blackpool on Saturday.
That was expected as Conference chief executive Dennis Strudwick said before the meeting that due to the appeal nothing could be decided.
Boston United's appeal against their expulsion from Blue Square North will also be heard on the same day.

"A further letter is going to be sent reminding it of our offer of help and to try and clarify its position regarding the future of the club," said Halifax Town Supporters' Trust spokesman Jonathon Monaghan.

MEMBERS of the Halifax Town Supporters' Trust were receiving ballot papers today seeking views on the future direction of the club.
A newsletter to the 230-plus membership outlines the history of the club and its more recent troubles.
And members are being asked to decide whether the trust should withdraw its "statement of intent" and allow more time for the consortium to evaluate its position alone, or ask the consortium to withdraw its "statement of intent."
A decision is needed as the FA will only accept one application for a team from Halifax and the trust has set a deadline of June 5 for replies.
It has been frustrated at the lack of dialogue with the consortium but will support whichever option is chosen by the membership.
And, if the consortium does not pursue its interest, the trust will proceed with plans for a fans' owned club but warned continuing delays could see deadlines missed for the Unibond Premier League Division One North - and the club re-starting as low as the Northern Counties East League at step six of the national game alongside Brighouse Town.

Fans are being encouraged to take up positions on the board of the Halifax Town Supporters' Trust following a spate of resignations.
Pam Burton, Roger Bottomley and Anne Stajic have quit in support of the consortium's efforts to run a club next season.
The trust is working on a possible alternative option of starting a new club from scratch run and owned by supporters.
Last night it decided to invite fans to take up the vacancies on the board until the annual meeting at a date yet to be fixed.
Those invited include club vice president Jack Haymer and club historian Johnny Meynell.
"With regards to the future of Halifax Town we will be writing to our members within the next seven days with the aim of ensuring everybody is fully consulted and represented in what happens next," said a trust statement.

FANS should decide who runs a new Halifax club if two options are on the table, according to the supporters' trust.
The consortium has still to decide if it will be involved next season but the trust is pressing ahead with its business plan amidst the confusion.
And a public meeting is likely to be held next week to update fans.
"The FA won't accept two bids so it is a concern," said trust spokesman Gavin Butler.
"I think we will hear something today or tomorrow from the consortium but we are cracking on regardless.
"We are looking to hold a public meeting to which the consortium will be invited to attend.
"We don't feel it's up to a group of businessmen, or a small group of supporters, to decide the future of football in Halifax.
"It should be a decision made by all supporters of the old club, as it's the loyal supporters who are effectively the only real asset any new club would have."
Mr Butler said the trust would be seeking a deadline from the FA for when its business plan needed to be submitted.

THE demise of Halifax Town Football Club was due to be raised in the House Of Commons on Monday.
Halifax MP Linda Riordan will ask colleagues to pay tribute to players, fans and staff who have been involved with the club through its 97 year history.
She will demand the Government takes action to prevent other clubs experiencing a similar fate by setting up systems to redistribute the wealth of some of the biggest teams in the land.
And she will round off her Early Day Motion by paying tribute to Halifax Town Supporters Trust and wishing them "every success in their attempt to resurrect the football club and keep the Halifax Town name alive by re-forming and joining a lower league in time for the 2008/09 season."
