FC Halifax Town v Clitheroe: Danny is keen to take his chance

DANNY Meadowcroft arrived at the Shay at the start of October and has started all five matches the Shaymen have played this month.
And that suits the central defender down to the ground after a massively disrupted pre-season and a struggle to force his way into the reckoning at previous club Droylsden.
"I was thrown in a bit at the deep end," he said. "But the thing I need is games.
"I am starting to feel stronger each time I play.
"I didn't really do a pre season and had hardly played before I arrived at Halifax.
"I am also playing on the left side of the defence which I am not used to, but I am happy to take whatever the manager wants me to do."
The 23-year-old, who has also played for Stockport County, Northwich Victoria and Morecambe, was drafted into the squad by manager Jim Vince after both senior centre backs Tony Barras and Steve Payne were laid low by injury.
And he knows that his next target will be to keep his place as the more experienced men try to force their way back into the side.
"It keeps me on my toes," he said. "I know how good both of them are and if I can keep them out of the side - or at least one of them - I would be happy.
"The squad has four good centre backs who can all do a job. We know that if one or two are injured there are two more who can come in.
"It is healthy competition which is good for the club."
Barras is back in training while Payne is beginning the road back after an ankle operation.
In the meantime, Meadowcroft knows that the Shaymen have to build on their impressive win at Bamber Bridge in midweek where a 5-2 victory moved them to within touching distance of the Unibond One North play off places.
"It was a massive win on Tuesday," he said.
"The talk in the changing rooms before the match was the home defeat on the opening day of the season. That hurt a lot of people.
"I think the win sends out a message to the rest of the league that we are on our way, onwards and upwards."
FANS wanting to travel on the official supporters coach to Tuesday's West Riding County Cup tie at Wakefield can book now on the travel line - 07707 143094. The cost will be £10 and transport leaves the Shay at 6.0.
