RYAN Sugden could hardly have had a more frustrating start to the season.
The 27-year-old striker returned to the Shay in the summer, 18 months after leaving for Farsley Celtic.
But he picked up a thigh strain during the warm-up before the pre-season game with Guiseley and has yet to feature for the new club.
Now he is targeting a return to action, stepping up his training and bidding for a return within the next week to 10 days.
"You come back looking forward to a new start at a new club and it was disappointing to get injured early on," he said.
"I just want to get back playing now and hopefully have some success here.
"I am probably less than two weeks away from returning and I am raring to go."
Sugden will be looking reproduce the sort of form that made him a popular figure at the Shay under Chris Wilder.
He bagged 22 goals in 66 Conference starts after arriving from Morecambe and played in the play-off final against Hereford United at Leicester City's Walkers Stadium.
And he is happy to be back in familiar surroundings.
"I know everything about the club even though they have dropped down a few leagues," he said.
"I don't think they deserve to be where they are and hopefully I can play a part in getting them back up.
"It will be a bit strange pulling the shirt on again for the first time.
"I know it is a new club, but it is the same place and the same fans.
"The only thing that has changed is the name - and the division they are playing in."
With goals having been a problem early on in the campaign, Sugden's return to hardly be more timely.
But he knows he won't walk straight into a side with the likes of Ashley Stott, Junior Brown and Jonathan Smith finding form.
"Competition for places is good," he said. "But hopefully I will be able to bring something to the team."
As for his injury worries, he is hoping they are behind him.
And after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, he really deserves a bit of good fortune.
"I missed virtually the whole of last season through injury," he said. "I only played three games and they were back in August."
