HAVING won two games in a row, FC Halifax Town will be bidding for a hat-trick when they take on Salford City at the Shay tomorrow.
And on paper they should have every chance of doing so against a side that has struggled in the league so far this season.
The Manchester side, promoted from the North West Counties along with Trafford at the end of last season, have picked up just one point from their opening six league games.
And that came in the second game of the campaign when they fought out a 1-1 draw with Curzon Ashton.
Since then, they have suffered four successive defeats in the league, including a 4-1 loss at Bamber Bridge and a 4-0 home reverse against Mossley.
And for anyone looking for form lines they were beaten 1-0 by Warrington on the opening day.
However, if Salford turn up with their knockout heads on, Town could be in for a bigger test than they might otherwise be expecting.
Already this season City have knocked Lancaster and Atherton LR out of the FA Cup and on Tuesday night they beat Mossley 2-0 in the first round of the Unibond Challenge Cup.
Town will be well aware of that and, if nothing else, it should be sufficient to focus the minds of the players.
The signs on Tuesday night at the Shay were certainly promising, especially in the first half when they could comfortably have had three or four goals.
Their passing was crisp, they won their share of tackles and were a threat down either flank with Cavell Coo particularly impressive on the right.
They also kept a second successive clean sheet after the horrors of Mossley and once they start to take their chances they ought to be a force to be reckoned with.
In the meantime the Shay faithful will, no doubt, be happy just to see them bag another three points and start to climb up the table.
That has to be the priority after a rocky road in the early weeks of the campaign.
