LEWIS Killeen bagged the only goal of the game as Town booked their place in the third round of the West Riding County FA Cup.
But it is a game that will not live long in the memory and in which the major bonus was that the Shaymen picked up no further injuries or suspensions as they approach the crucial festive period.

Nicky Gray played his first full 90 minutes since returning from injury, Anthony Griffith returned from suspension and Craig Mawson kept a comfortable clean sheet as he replaced Adam Legzdins in goal.

The strong wind, into which Town played in the first half, stifled the chances of a flowing game but the best of the football was played by the Shaymen who deserved their victory.

The downside is that they will have to play another game in the competition which can be more of a hindrance than a help.

Farsley forced a couple of corners on the early stages, neither of which troubled the Town defence.

Craig Mawson's first real action came in the 13th minute when he was forced to race out of his area to clear from one of many Celtic long balls as Gareth Grant looked to cash in.

Town finally mounted a serious attack after 21 minutes when Ryan Toulson and Steve Torpey combined to release Jake Wright down the left, but no one could get on the end of the full back's cross.

Moments later Lewis Killeen pulled the ball back for Gray, but he sent his shot high over the bar.

Simon Heslop's defence-splitting pass picked out Wright down the left again on 25 minutes and his whipped in cross was met on the volley by Toulson who could only send the ball wide.

Peter Atherton cleared a Chris Billy cross at the other end, while Torpey sent a left foot effort, from another Heslop pass, over the top of the angle of post and bar.

Toulson's right foot shot went straight into Morgan's arms before the best chance of the opening 45 minutes arrived.

Torpey's rising shot rom the edge of the area was straight at the keeper while a Bushell free kick, following a rare moment of aggression when Amjad Iqbal fouled Anthony Griffith, flew across goal and wide.

Farsley's best spell followed that with Jake Wright clearing from Roy Stamer and a Scott McNiven free kick blocked by the Town defensive wall.

When the ball fell kindly for Damian Reeves inside the Town area, his shot was comfortably saved by Mawson and Bushell slid in to deny tame a shooting chance.

Town weathered the storm and had a late chance of their own from a Torpey cross. Killeen slid in and was only inches away from converting on the edge of the six yard box.

Torpey picked up the ball in the Farsley area and ghosted round the first defender.

Morgan did well to get a hand to the ball as the Town man tried to take it round him and when Torpey regained possession he could only curl his shot over the bar from a tight angle.

Town finally broke the deadlock within two minutes of the re-start.
Gray picked out Killeen and when the defence opened up in front of him he moved into the area before firing home.

Two minutes later Killeen found Toulson whose left foot shot on the turn was blocked and Torpey's left wing cross went straight through Morgan's hands and out for a corner.

When Torpey's corner on the hour was half cleared to Bushell on the edge of the area, he smashed a shot goalwards but Morgan managed to get down and turn it onto the bar.

Six minutes later Bushell picked out Killeen on the left with a great pass and the scorer found Toulson, but his well-struck effort came back off the foot of a post.

Star Shayman
It might have been more a case of getting through the game ahead of everything else.
But it was nice to see Town win away from home against a fellow Blue Square Premier side, no matter what the competition.
Lewis Killeen's goal proved to be the difference between the sides and he was influential in an entertaining second half which Town dominated.
Apart from breaking the deadlock, he was a central figure in the Shaymen's best attacking moves, despite playing the game on the right side of midfield.
Ryan Toulson has played virtually all of his football this season at right back or on the right of midfield.
But he showed his versatility by leading the Town attack at the Throstle Nest.
He ran tirelessly and might have got on the scoresheet with a well struck shot had the ball not come back off a post.
Two players get a point each as they played the same role in each half.
Simon Heslop was very impressive in the opening 45 minutes, showing his full range of passes and getting stuck in - relatively - when Town needed to break up anything Farsley had to offer.
After the break he was replaced by Steve Bushell who also used the ball well when going forward and got back to deny Roy Stamer a shooting chance late on.
Killeen takes the three points on offer in our season-long competition with Toulson claiming two and one each for Heslop and Bushell.
Town almost doubled their lead on a couple of occasions, with only the woodwork preventing them from scoring a second goal.
