TOWN'S frustratingly inconsistent season continued with an embarrassing defeat in the Boxing Day derby at Throstle Nest as Farsley, in their first season at Blue Square Premier level, ran out comfortable winners.
Passes were mis-placed, tackles were missed, marking was ordinary - and they were the good bits.
Few of the Halifax players on view did anything to enhance their reputations and several now appear to be on thin ice as far as their places in manager Chris Wilder's plans are concerned.
A Roy Stamer goal in the first half and further strikes from James Knowles and on-loan striker Steve Torpey settled the game in the home side's favour and to rub salt into the already gaping Halifax wounds, their own Steve Torpey missed a penalty with 15 minutes remaining.
Town were handed a real let off after just six minutes from a Tom Morgan free kick. James Knowles flicked the ball on for Simeon Bambrook who sliced horribly wide from close range.
A few minutes later Scott McNiven's cross was put behind by Ryan Toulson and the resulting corner was headed behind by Jake Wright as the Shaymen were put under further pressure.
Town had half a chance after 15 minutes when an Adam Legzdins clearance was helped down by Jon Shaw, but Darryn Stamp volleyed over from the edge of the area.
A sweeping box to box break involving Anthony Griffith and Toulson ended with Simon Heslop cutting in from the right and firing a left foot effort over the top.
Town's best chance of the half came in the 26th minute when Griffith released Torpey on the left and he crossed first time, but Stamp headed over from eight yards.
At the other end, Amjad Iqbal twice had efforts blocked inside the Town area before Farsley went ahead in the 28th minute.
McNiven's free kick from deep was helped on by Bambrook and, as the ball bobbled towards the Halifax goal, Stamer prodded home from close range.
The goal appeared to rock the Shaymen who were too rushed when they had the chance to calm things down and regroup and James Knowles sliced a good chance wide for the home side after a Stamer corner had landed at his left foot.
Town had one further opportunity before the break when Torpey took a corner short to Heslop and collected the return pass only to hit a rising shot over the bar.
It was little better after the break, although Torpey had an effort deflected for a corner.
The home side continued to pose the greater threat with Knowles having a well-struck effort turned round the post by Legzdins at full stretch.
Rob Scott looked to have rescued the Shaymen with a fine tackle to deny Lee Tuck a shooting chance on the hour, but from the resulting corner Celtic doubled their lead.
Stamer sent over the delivery and Knowles rose at the near post to head home despite the hamstring problem which forced him to leave the field before the game had even restarted.
When Legzdins and Greg Young were involved in a mix up a couple of yards outside the area the ball fell for Ashley Allanson who tried his luck only for the Town keeper to recover and collect.
But there was no let off for the keeper in the 64th minute when he raced out of his area on the left and completely missed the ball, allowing Torpey to finish coolly from a tight angle. It was game over although Farsley had the chances to score more, notably within a minute of their third when Wright was forced to clear the ball off the line from a Bambrook shot.
Town had their moments in the final 20 minutes or so after Jon Shaw had narrowly failed to connect with a Torpey cross.
And the winger had a great chance to pull a goal back when Shaw was bundled over in the area with 15 minutes remaining, but Farsley's former Town keeper dived to his left to save from the penalty spot.
That knocked any remaining stuffing out of the Town side who could have conceded further goals.
Bambrook almost chipped Legzdins with nine minutes remaining , Tuck had a couple of efforts blocked by a scrambling Town defence soon after and Allanson volleyed over the top from a Bambrook free kick in the dying seconds.
