Grays Athletic v Halifax Town: Shaymen bid to build on win

TOWN climbed out of the Blue Square Premier drop zone with a 1-0 win over Ebbsfleet United at the Shay last night.
And boss Chris Wilder immediately turned his thoughts to staying above the relegation line as his side prepares for a fourth game in eight days at Grays Athletic tomorrow (3.0).
Simon Heslop bagged the only goal of the game in the 69th minute, firing home from a Danny Forrest pass.
And while the game was never the greatest spectacle, Wilder was delighted his side had ended a run of six games without a win just 48 hours after they had crashed to Kidderminster .
"We can pass the ball better and make better decisions but the most important thing was the result," he said.
"Hopefully the players can use this as a springboard to stay out of the bottom four.
"To come back from a 6-1 takes a lot of character and desire.
"To do that speaks volumes for the players."
Wilder will make changes for tomorrow's game at the New Rec when the Shaymen will be looking for their fourth away win of the season in the league.
But he will make no firm decisions until the squad gets together for the journey south.
"We will have a little look today to see where we are in terms of players," he said. "But there will be changes.
"Adam Quinn is back and Darryn Stamp will play.
"There will be four or five changes because there were lads out on their feet last night.
"There were a lot of tired legs out there. We will have to dig deep."
Last night's match was never short on incident, with a red card, a missed penalty and a stunning strike the notable features.
Ebbsfleet's Sasha Opinel was red carded after he and Town midfielder Anthony Griffith had both gone for the same ball - from a considerable distance - after 28 minutes.
That gave Town the upper hand but things looked less optimistic when Jon Shaw missed a spot kick on the hour.
"I think it was a tight one because both players were genuinely committed," said Wilder.
"I think their player did go high, but I don't think Anthony pulled back and the referee saw it as it was.
"I don't think anyone can talk to us about refereeing decisions with what we have had against us.
"Jon is our penalty taker and has been successful on numerous occasions."
That miss was forgotten nine minutes later as Heslop bagged what proved to be the match winner.
"We have got young players who are feeling the pressure," said Wilder. "Simon is not even our player and he is feeling it just as much as anyone else.
"On Tuesday there were players not playing as freely as they might and Simon was one of them.
"There were three or four times against Kidderminster when he turned down the chance to shoot.
"We told him he had to take the opportunity to shoot, he did that and we are all delighted.
Town's fans stuck with the side last night, 1,063 turning up for the televised clash and backing the players throughout.
"I have come in for criticism which hurts and which I think is unjust," said Wilder.
"But I thought the support last night was absolutely first class.
"The atmosphere was excellent and it was a great effort considering we were stuffed 6-1 two days earlier.
"They gave the players a lift when they needed it. In the last few minutes there were a lot of weary legs out there."
