FC Halifax Town boss Jim Vince was purring with pride after watching his side stage a dramatic fightback to claim a 2-2 draw at Garforth last night.
Despite dominating possession, the Shaymen trailed 2-0 with seven minutes remaining before goals from Junior Brown and Kris King gave them a point.

"I was proud of the lads last night," said Vince. "We dominated the game.

"We gave a good account of ourselves - and it will get better.

"We created a lot of opportunities and didn't get the end product for a lot of the things we did. But the football's okay. We are keeping the ball, we are being intimidated but are playing well.

"We played well, played good football but we were not effective in the final third. Once that comes into the game if we show anything like what we did last night we will be okay this year."

Vince added that he was concerned when Garforth bagged their second goal in the 83rd minute but was pleased to put an end to the theory that his team fade after the break.

"At 2-0 down I was thinking 'Are we playing that badly?'," he said. "And we were not. We were playing okay.

"The lads have responded well.

"I was scratching my head wondering where we were going wrong.

"It seems that when things are going badly for you, they go bad.

"We might have turned the corner last night and I am hoping so because the players showed endeavour, passion and commitment for the full 90 minutes. All this talk of not doing well in the second half has been put to bed."

Vince sprung a surprise in his team selection by naming Nigel Jemson as sweeper, but the move paid off with the assistant manager proving a calming influence at the back.

"I know people were quite surprised when he was selected and a few eyebrows were raised," said Vince. "But I am here to pick the team and get a result and we should have won the game.

Vince handed a debut to Damian Allen, a 22-year-old with 70 League appearances at Stockport and Morecambe under his belt, in the centre of midfield.

"Damian's a good player," he said. "He played at Morecambe last season, he has played in Belgium and at Stockport.

"He has come here because he knows I want to play good football and he can be part of it.

"I am pleased to have him on board. He and Scott Phelan were magnificent."

Cavell Coo is set to stay at the Shay until the end of the season after agreeing a switch from Droylsden.

Great character and grit to come through with 2 goals in the last 5, in tretcherous conditions, to salvage a much needed point. Credit to the lads.

I do think that the team need to improve on movement in and around the box when we're attacking. Too often our players run in to danger when they've got the ball as no-one shifts themselves to give an outlet. Brown ran his socks off, but was often dispossesed as he tried to keep the ball waiting for a player to show for him, and non could be bothered.

In all, a draw away from home is a good result, but we can be better.

Any point away is a good one but if we are to get into the playoffs we need to beat teams like this but the season is a marathon not a sprint and there is along way to go still.

As much as I'd love us to, I dont think that the playoffs are realistic, and haven't done since the beginning of the season.

JV said he'd be chopping and changing players throughout the season to get the team right. Whilst that happens, the results will chop and change too.

I'd expect a very good shot at automatic promotion next season, but for this consolidation of the football club is the most important thing for me.

A dramatic fightback?

Ending in a flaming draw - what ever next - will this mean a celebration for FC Halifax Town?
