THERE can be no doubting Town's stomach for the fight after they came from behind three times to secure a point at Grays.
There had been real question marks over the team's ability to battle against the odds when they crashed to a 6-1 home defeat at the hands of Kidderminster last Tuesday.
But Thursday's gritty win over Ebbsfleet moved them out of the bottom four and the point they gained from this game on Saturday ensured they remain above the dotted line with four games to go.
The Shaymen were full value for their share of the spoils in a game that sprang into life in an 11-minute spell either side of half time during which each side scored twice.
And there was a dramatic finale as well, with Jon Shaw levelling from the penalty spot in the 88th minute, three minutes after Grays had taken the lead for the third time in the game.
Early Tom Kearney and Simon Heslop efforts failed to trouble the home goal but Town should have had a spot kick after 16 minutes when Darryn Stamp latched onto a Matt Doughty pass.
The big striker took the ball round Nicky Eyre and was about to roll it into an empty net when he was brought down by the Grays keeper, but the referee was distinctly uninterested in the appeals.
Adam Gross was given too much time and space as he surged forward just past the half hour mark, though thankfully for Town his shot flew wide of the target.
But the home side got the breakthrough in the 39th minute from Barry Cogan's deep cross from the left.
The ball skimmed off the top of Adam Quinn's head and went through to Danny Kedwell who sent it across the face of goal for Jamie Taylor to head home from close range.
Far from flattening the Shaymen it galvanised them and they levelled in the first minute of time added on at the end of the first half.
Gareth Davies played the ball forward for Heslop wide on the right and he whipped in a low cross. Eyre could only push the ball away from goal and Daryl Taylor pounced, smashing home from 10 yards.
Halifax suffered another setback inside the opening minute of the second half when Grays restored their advantage and it was the simplest goal of the afternoon as Jon Ashton's long ball forward picked out Jamie Taylor who kept his cool under pressure from three defenders to lift the ball into the net.
As they had in the first half, Town hit back almost immediately when Heslop picked out Davies on the right and his cross was glanced home by Danny Forrest, with a little help from the far post.
Adam Legzdins saved from Aaron O'Connor who fired in a shot from the edge of the area while Kearney had a thunderbolt of a shot blocked by Simon Downer at the other end.
Both sides showed good attacking intent, Town belying the pressure they are clearly under at the moment.
Cogan should have done better after good work from Gross and Jeff Goulding who had knocked down a cross.
And Town almost hit the front in the 78th minute when Eyre's attempted clearance went straight up in the air and was brought down by Taylor. He controlled it well, turned and sent a shot towards the top right hand corner only to see the keeper recover and save.
Grays were adamant they should have had a penalty when Michael Standing went over Quinn's outstretched leg with nine minutes remaining, but again the referee waved play on.
But they only had to wait a further four minutes for their third goal when Scott Taylor got onto a long ball down field and pushed over Quinn before firing home.
Against another side, that might have been the winner, but Town dug deep and got back to secure a point with a couple of minutes remaining.
Kearney surged into the area on the left and almost stumbled before eventually going down under a challenge from Ashton.
And Shaw, who had missed from the spot less than 48 hours earlier, coolly fired home from 12 yards, sending Eyre the wrong way.

STARMAN
Daryl Taylor has taken time to make his mark at the Shay since arriving from Tamworth in the summer.
But he certainly did just that against Grays on Saturday as he ran himself into the ground for the Town cause.
His goal was a real opportunist strike while his pace caused Grays plenty of problems throughout the game.
Tom Kearney has his critics, but once again he showed what his game is about with some good work in the centre of midfield.
Twice he surged into the Grays area, forcing a corner in the first half and drawing the foul in the second that allowed Jon Shaw to fired home from the penalty spot to secure a point.
Gareth Davies has picked up where he left off before being laid low by injury.
Whether as an orthodox right back or a wing back he produced a consistent level of performance.
And it was his cross from the right that enabled Danny Forrest to level at 2-2 four minutes after Town had gone behind again.
Taylor takes the three points on offer in our season-long competition with Kearney claiming two and Davies one.
