DON'T take any notice of the scoreline - Town were streets ahead of Torquay as they produced a stunning display to topple the Blue Square Premier high flyers.
Such was their dominance of a side that has pushed leaders Aldershot as close as anyone this season, that on another night Halifax could easily have doubled, if not trebled, their goal tally.

See the slide show from the game

Jon Shaw bagged a brace, taking him to 22 for the season - and could have had three times as many - as the Shaymen stormed into a three-goal lead inside the opening 50 minutes.
And but for some last-ditch defending and heroic goalkeeping from United stopper Martin Rice the visitors would have been sunk without trace.
As it was, two goals in nine minutes from Lee Phillips caused a moment or two of late anxiety, but the Shaymen held on for a deserved win.
Shaw could have put Town in front after seven minutes but, after Danny Forrest and Simon Heslop had combined on the right, the striker fired over from 10 yards.
He made amends two minutes later when he headed home the first of a series of top quality Matt Doughty crosses to put the Shaymen ahead.
Heslop had a thunderbolt blocked, Forrest fired just over the top from the right and Lewis Killeen sent a header from Gareth Davies's cross off target as Halifax continued to carve out chances.
Forrest's 39th-minute shot from the edge of the area flew narrowly wide, but four minutes later they were rewarded for their superiority when they doubled their lead.
It was another ball in from the left by Doughty that caused the problems for the Gulls with Shaw inches away from turning the ball in.
That honour went to Mark Ellis as the ball bounced past Rice off the defender's knee.
The Shaymen should have had a penalty on the stroke of half time when Shaw clearly got a push in the back as he tried to get on the end of a Heslop cross.
But they had to wait until the fifth minute of the second half to increase their lead when Doughty again delivered from a wide position and Shaw rose superbly at the far post to head his second.
Killeen had already fired just over by the time Shaw struck again and it was one-way traffic as Halifax went to town on the United goal.
Heslop, Davies and Killeen combined only for Shaw's shot from 12 yards to be blocked.
Adam Quinn was denied by a sliding tackle from Ellis and when Heslop released Forrest on the right he cut infield and fired just over the United bar.
Shaw swapped passes with Killeen and raced into the Torquay area only to be denied by Rice who kept his side in the game on the hour mark with a stunning double save.
Forrest cut in from the right and squared the ball for Heslop who hammered in a shot that Rice parried. The keeper then recovered quickly to deny Forrest as he pounced on the rebound.
Rice also dived to his right to deny Davies as he let one go from the edge of the area minutes later.
Quinn was forced from the field with a tight hamstring and his departure seemed to upset the balance of the Town side.
Torquay striker Phillips took full advantage, racing down the left before firing home his side's first goal in the 65th minute and capitalising on a poor clearance to bag the second.
Torquay sniffed a chance, but Town's defence regained its composure and rarely looked in trouble again despite a couple of well taken Kevin Nicholson corners.
Killeen thought he had bagged a fourth for the Shaymen six minutes from the end, but was denied by the linesman's flag.
And Heslop tried his luck from 45 yards after Shaw had half charged down a Rice clearance, but the Halifax midfielder missed the target.
Shaw could have put everyone out of their misery with three minutes remaining when, after Heslop and Andy Campbell had broke from a Torquay corner, he had a great chance to finish the game off only to fire over.
But Town need not have worried as they comfortably saw out four minutes of added time to make it three wins from the last four league games.

STAR SHAYMAN
Matt Doughty was almost untouchable when he raided down the Town left.
The Torquay United defenders certainly could not get anywhere near him as he supplied the crosses for all three of the Shaymen's goals.
The major beneficiary of his delivery from out wide was Jon Shaw.
But it was not just the two goals he scored that helped the Town striker stand out.
He gave another all-action display and was just as likely to pop up in his own area as he was Torquay's.
And on another night, with steadier finishing, he could have had half a dozen goals.
But that would have been greedy!
As good as Doughty was on the left, Danny Forrest was equally so on the other side.
He terrorised the United defenders when he cut in from the flank .
Doughty takes the three points on offer in our season long competition with Shaw claiming two and Forrest one.

Great Performance but keeper still worries me - especially when he has the ball - but he did come off his line well to make tackles. I can't believe you haven't commented on the repeated late tackles dished out to Griffiths in an apparent attempt to get him to retaliate and get sent off. I can't believe Torquay only had 2 yellow cards and no reds. Well done Griff for keeping your cool.

A hugely enjoyable game. Whilst every player played well I was particularly impressed by Doughty, Shaw, Griffith and Quinn. Well done Town!

Unsubstantiated accusations from anonymous posters, that's hardly responsible journalism. Wake up Courier and start promoting good relations between our two professional clubs.
