THE consortium's intention to name the new club FC Halifax Town has been knocked back.
Talks are continuing with the West Riding County FA and the issue is expected to be resolved within the next few days.
But, the West Riding has said there is no problem with affiliating the new club into the Unibond League - and if necessary a pseudonym would be used in next week's published fixture list.
West Riding spokesman John Riordan - who was on Halifax Town's books in the late 1960s/early 1970s - said the Football Association had indicated FC Halifax Town was too similar to the failed club.
"It is nothing that stops the club going forward signing players," he said.
"The club will be affiliated and amicable discussions are taking place."
The decision rests with the West Riding County FA and Mr Riordan said it wanted an acceptable solution for all parties and he was confident agreement would be reached very shortly.

Halifax will always look and sound like Halifax no matter what order you put it in with letters before or after.I hope this is not a ruse to get the dreaded name 'Calderdale' involved.

Football Club United of Manchester contains all the words listed in the name "Manchester United Football Club"

Can't believe the West Riding FA are being as pedantic as this.

Are Manchester United and Manchester City too similar as well then?

Can someone tell me what is happening to Shawy and Quinny.Surely we cant afford to keep them and if Halifax Town are no longer going to exist then surely they can sign for any other club for no transfer fee. Good luck to them both and thanks for all you have done for the Shaymen.

Bournmouth ( and at one time "and Boscombe Athletic") became AFC Bournmouth, can't see any option other than AFC Halifax.
