And he will be will be demanding a massive improvement from his players when they line up against Durham City at the Shay today (3.0).

Looking to build on the previous Tuesday's 2-1 win at Trafford, Town failed to make any real impression on their hosts who wrapped up the points with a goal in each half from Dave Foster.

"On Tuesday we played well in the first half and faded," he said. "On Saturday we didn't even show in the first half - it was absolute rubbish.

"I have brought these players to the club to play football and for about 80 per cent of the first half the ball was in the air. That's not good enough."

Vince added that he took responsibility for the team's performances, but he is demanding a chance in their mental approach to games.

"You can either blame the players or blame me," he said. "I will take responsibility because it is my team, a team I have put together.

"It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that it is not acceptable.

"I am disappointed with individuals and with the team. There is no consistency.

"It is easy to say that it is a new team and it will take time.

"But maybe I have been a little bit naive in thinking that this team will play better in a short space of time.

"The teams we are playing against are not good teams - they are just strong teams.

"And the players are living in a parallel universe if they think everything is rosy.

"They need to adjust their approach or they are going to struggle here."

Vince added that he was mystified as to why his side had failed to hit the heights in its opening three games.

"I cannot understand the reasons why some players are not turning it on," he said.

"And you can go right through the team after Saturday's game.

"Why did Kris King give the ball away? Why did Jonathan Smith twice do a little turn on the edge of the 18 yard box?

"They would not have done it at Wigan or Aberdeen, so why do it here?

"But it is not just them, it is the whole of the team."

While Vince has already stated that if players do not perform they will be shown the door, he has little time to turn things round ahead of today's game.

And the key to any success they may have against Durham, who have opened the campaign with two draws and a win, will be as a result of hard work.

"There is a lot to do," he said. "It is a big club and it is a big task.

"We have to get out of the mode of it being a god-given right to turn up and win games.

"I certainly don't take that for granted.

"You are not going to get the time and space. It is not a gimme to turn up in a Halifax shirt and get three points.

"You have to work hard and I don't think we are working hard enough as a team at the moment.

"When we have got the ball we are not doing enough with it."
