BEWARE the wounded Lancaster City.
That may well be one of the things manager Jim Vince tells his FC Halifax Town players as they run onto the Giant Axe pitch at the end of their first week in Unibond League Division One North.
While the Shaymen were recovering from an opening day defeat at home to Bamber Bridge with a win at Trafford, City were experiencing the exact opposite.
They opened their campaign with an impressive 3-2 win on the road at Harrogate Railway only to return home to lose 5-2 to last season's play-off finalists Skelmersdale United.
That is a result that will have hurt manager Barrie Stimpson and his players as they look to make an impact on the promotion race.
In truth, Town boss Vince will be more interested in his own team's progression than the state of the opposition.
And he was clearly please after the 2-1 win at Trafford, although there is still room for improvement.
Town looked a better outfit altogether than they had against Bamber Bridge and in the first half especially played some good football.
They were at their most effective when their passing game was going well, but they have to win the midfield battle before they can start to play it around.
And the fact that they will be playing their third game together in a week ought to mean an even more cohesive performance tomorrow afternoon.
Like Town, Lancaster City know what it is like to start again almost from scratch.
In the summer of 1982 they were forced to resign from the Northern Premier League and were forced to re-form in the North West Counties League.
They rose through the ranks to reach the Conference North in 2004, but have since dropped a couple of divisions and word is that they are ready to make a challenge to begin a rise once again.
Town obviously have the same ambitions and they would love nothing more than a second successive away win to take into Monday's Shay clash with Durham City when they will be looking to put a smile back on the home fans' faces.
