TOWN cruised into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup despite never really getting out of third gear in their clash at Northern League Ryton.
The Shaymen always looked the better side on an undulating pitch and first half goals from Ashley Stott and Adam Morning coupled with a second half double from Paul Gedman on his debut, saw them through.
And there is no doubt they were full value for their victory against a Ryton side that didn't have the tools to do any harm in the final third.
The victory will have provided a much-needed morale-booster after the previous Tuesday's dismal defeat at Mossley.
And there is clearly far more to come from Jim Vince's side who, if they reproduce this sort of display on a perfect surface like the Shay ought to be able to see off most teams.
However, the passing still lacked the crispness expected and there were times when they failed to close down the opposition who, had they been any better, might have taken advantage.
Gedman and Cavell Coo both impressed in their first starts of a month's loan from Droylsden while Morning proved a real handful.
Stott bagged another goal to boost his confidence while Justin Walker ran the show from the middle of the park.
But the most encouraging signs were the smiles on players' faces, something that has been missing in the opening games.
And they translated to smiles on the terraces as the travelling fans enjoyed their best afternoon of the new campaign.
As expected, Ryton started at a high tempo, forcing a corner inside the opening 60 seconds.
And Town keeper Jon Kennedy had to make the first save of the game soon after from a Marc Walton header.
Whenever Town attacked, their passes seemed to go astray or their crosses were too deep for the men in the box.
Stott got away down the right only to send his cross beyond the back post, Walker's free kick sailed over everyone and Coo's delivery from the right was claimed by the keeper.
Walton pulled a free kick wide of the target after 16 minutes as the home side pushed forward and Kennedy just got to the ball ahead of Anthony Healer as he tried to get through.
But it was the Shaymen who broke the deadlock in the 29th minute with a really scrappy goal from a long ball down field.
Lincoln Adams got behind the last defender but was twice denied by Ben Starfeld in the Ryton goal only for Stott to force home from close range.
Kennedy saved from Healer before Walton curled another free kick narrowly wide.
Adam Morning thumped a shot against the bar from 35 yards before Kennedy saved comfortably from Steven Evans and Gary Forbes headed wide.
The Shaymen doubled their advantage in first half stoppage time after Peter Moore had released Stott down the right.
He waited for the support to arrive and when it did he picked out Morning who fired home from eight yards.
Having scored so late in the first half, the Shaymen put the result beyond doubt within a minute of the re-start after good work on the right from Walker and Peter Moore down the right hand side.
The ball was whipped into the area where Gedman was waiting and he made no mistake from close range.
Ryton's challenge disappeared, with a Carl Patterson shot that eventually dribbled out for a throw in being their only chance.
And Town bagged a fourth goal just before the hour mark from a wonderful move on the left.
Jonathan Smith's quickly taken throw in found Stott whose deep cross was controlled by Moore.

Star Shayman
As debuts go, Paul Gedman's could not have gone much better.
In his previous, brief, spell with the Shaymen six years ago, he had little chance to shine as he made just a couple of substitute appearances.
On Saturday he was a pivotal figure in Town's attacks, flicking headers on, holding the ball up well and scoring a couple of second half goals to secure the team's passage into the second qualifying round of the competition.
The big man-small man strike partnership with Ashley Stott promised much for the coming month.
Adam Morning continued his impressive run of form as he tormented Ryton down the left hand side.
He also bagged another goal and might have had two bit for the intervention of the crossbar.
Justin Walker looked like a man finally enjoying his football in the middle of the park.
He tackled strongly, even after he had been harshly booked for committing his first foul of the game, and used the ball well when in possession.
Gedman takes the three points on offer in our season-long competition , with Morning two and Walker one.
