THE directors of the Shay Stadium Trust have voted unanimously to surrender their lease to the ground.
It paves the way for Calderdale Council to complete the partly-built east stand and incorporate bars, a function room, offices and other facilitites, which it is hoped will make the stadium self-financing.

Trust chairman Roger Simpson said he was encouraged by the council's commitment to get the job done.

"The trustees have put in a lot of time and effort in recent years to try to make sure Halifax has a sports stadium which it can be proud of, and we certainly don't feel that has been wasted.

"It might not exactly match our designs and there may eventually be other users but we are confident that things are at last going to happen."

The council meets on Wednesday to approve a scheme which will mean the Shay becoming a centre of sporting excellence, with further and higher education provided by Calderdale College and Leeds Metropolitan University.

Well said Fanatic.

These types probably spend their Saturday afternoons swigging Lambrini or White Lightning while watching East Enders or Coronation Street omnibuses.

Soccer, you'll find, is short for "Association Football"

So stop trying to pick fault for the sake of it.
