DEFIANT Halifax supporters have held an emergency meeting to resurrect a football club and restore some pride in the town.
But with registration deadlines looming, they admit it will be a race against time.

Fans say they are still reeling from the news tax debts have buried the club and almost 100 years of football history, but with only a month to create a new supporter-led team, there is no time to wallow.

Gavin Butler, of the Halifax Town Supporter's Trust, who helped organise last night's meeting which also included supporter's club representatives and life-long fans at the Shay's south stand bar, said: "We are just trying to get everyone together and see what we can do to rebuild football in Halifax and put some pride back. Owners and money-men come and go but it is supporters who will pick up the pieces."

The national deadline to register in a new league is mid-June.

"We know it's a race against time", Mr Butler said, "Time is the biggest factor for us but the will is there. We want a club people can be proud of again."

Another meeting was held with Simon Cope, chairman of Scarborough FC which was reformed by supporters after being liquidated.

It is thought a public meeting over the club's future is to be announced later this week.

Geoff Ralph, the former chairman, and sole director at the time of closure has also broken his silence .

He released a statement saying: "I am deeply saddened and shocked at the demise of Halifax Town."
