It was a game low on quality and high on frustration - for those on the pitch and those watching from the stands.
The visitors came with the intention of stifling Halifax and the Shaymen allowed them to do just that.
Town had by far the best of the chances but ultimately lacked the guile to break down last season's Conference South champions.
Histon's only real threat came from Adrian Cambridge's long throws, all of which were dealt with comfortably by the Town defence.
And the clean sheet was just about the only thing to cheer about for the 1,280 hardy souls who turned out on a filthy afternoon.

Town might have broken the deadlock after just six minutes when Daryl Taylor picked out Andy Campbell on the edge of the area. The striker turned well and fired in a shot that Histon keeper Mark Osborn turned round the post.
From the resulting Tom Kearney corner, the ball landed at Lewis Killeen's feet but he was unable to keep his shot down and the ball flew over the bar.
Campbell narrowly failed to connect with a Matt Doughty cross soon after and Osborn had to be alert in the 16th minute when Darryn Stamp flicked on a Craig Mawson clearance and Campbell raced towards the ball, the keeper hacking clear from the edge of his area.
Histon somehow defended successive Doughty corners from the right and Campbell was unlucky to be flagged offside when Kearney played the ball through to him after dispossessing Erkan Okay.
Stamp tried to get on the end of a Kearney cross five minutes before the break but was denied by Matthew Haniver, who required lengthy treatment for the head injury he sustained in getting in front of the Town striker.
And on the stroke of half time Doughty's ball in from the left found Stamp on the edge of the area, but his looped header went over the angle of post and bar.
Having dominated for such long spells before half time it was surely only a matter of time before Town broke the deadlock in the second period.
Not so.
There were flashes of encouragement from the home side, but not the sustained spells of intense pressure that might have forced the Histon defence to crack.
Bushell's cross from deep was headed wide by Stamp in the 51st minute and Kearney and Killeen combined well two minutes later, but Bushell was unable to get his volley close to the target.
The battling midfielder tried his luck again three minutes later, after a Killeen effort had been blocked, but the result was pretty much the same as the ball ended up in the South Stand.
To Bushell's credit, two missed efforts did not dampen his enthusiasm, although his shot from a free kick eight yards outside the area was never going to trouble Osborn.
And Histon almost snatched something at the other end from a rare corner, but midfielder Cambridge's shot deflected wide off one of his own teammates.
The visitors also had a Danny Wright effort saved by Mawson.
In between, Campbell had a decent shout for a penalty when he latched onto a Steve Torpey pass and was sent crashing to the ground inside the area but the referee was unimpressed.
Torpey added a little bit more pace wide on the left and down the middle while central Cortez Belle joined Campbell in attack for the final 10 minutes as the Shaymen searched for the elusive breakthrough.
Campbell's 83rd minute cross was cleared to Bushell, who again failed to hit the target.
And four minutes later it was a Bushell cross that picked out Belle, but his header deflected off a defender and wide of the target.
Torpey tried his luck from a free kick 25 yards out to the right of goal and cleared the wall but also, unfortunately, the bar.
And even four minutes of injury time against a Histon side that had conceded in the 94th and 91st minutes of its opening two games failed to bring any joy.
STAR SHAYMANAnyone who doubted the wisdom of bringing Steve Bushell back to the Shay - and there were a few - will have to think again after Saturday's display.
The midfielder was everywhere on the Shay pitch and did all he could to get his side in front against a packed Histon defence.
If he could have got one of a couple of volleys on target midway through the second half it might have been a different story.
Not far behind Bushell was Andy Campbell whose willingness to put defenders under pressure was plain for all to see. He tested the keeper early and led the line superbly with little reward.
Cortez Belle has certainly made his mark since arriving in pre-season.
An impressive presence at the back, where he was seldom needed on Saturday, he also went close to breaking the deadlock with a header late in the game.
Bushell picks up the three points on offer in our season long competition. Campbell gets two and Belle one.
