ILLINGWORTH took on SBCI in the Under 11 Collinson Cup final and with each team boasting three Taverners players expectations were high.
Illingworth captain Matthew Smith won the toss and asked SBCI, led by George Hampshire, to bat.

The first wicket fell with the score on six, Nat Skirrow bowled by an excellent delivery from his Yorkshire colleague Matthew Smith.

Hampshire took the Illingworth bowling to task, hitting four boundaries on his way to an excellent 25, and his cup average to 151.

The next wicket fell on 97, with Daniel Vile retiring on a superb 26, ably supported by a tremendous innings from Fahd Hussain (19) and a swashbuckling 21 from Azeem Butt.

Even with Smith's bowling figures of two for 18 and an excellent one for 12 from Max Dawson, quick running between the wickets by Alex Bradley at the death took SBCI to a fine total of 115.

Smith led from the front but his opening partner Dawson was run out by excellent fielding from Cameron Wilcock and Dan Vile with the total on nine.

Harry Wilcox was next out, bowled by the pacy Azeem Butt for nine, but Smith went on to retire with the top score on the day of 27 and at 44 for two the chase was on.

Hampshire then brought vice captain and spin king Nat Skirrow into the attack and he quickly accounted for Reece Mills (7) and coupled with excellent ground fielding from Alex Bradley, Euan Davis and Tom Wilsher the run rate slowed.

After another bowling change Illingworth quickly moved to 85 for four with Tobias Stephenson hitting the only six of the game off the unlucky Joe Hollis.

Lewis Schofield was brought into the attack and trapped Adam Mellor leg before in his first over. Hampshire returned to the attack and promptly delivered a double wicket maiden, bowling Stephenson and Josh Robertshaw leaving him with figures of three for 10 off three overs.

At 85 for seven SBCI's nerves began to settle and in Schofield's second over a mix up between the batters and quick thinking from Azeem Butt allowed Schofield to run out Josh Stead, bringing Lydia Hargreaves to the wicket as Illingworth's last batter.

A strong blow from Jamie Spencer had four written all over it until Azeem Butt plucked it out of the air one handed to leave Hargreaves stranded and Illing-worth all out on 87.
