Football: Dazzling Brighouse beat South Leeds

BRIGHOUSE under 14s hit four goals in a dazzling first half display to progress to the next round of the West Riding County FA Trophy.
Home team South Leeds had no answer as captain James Lumb drove forward from midfield at every opportunity putting in defence breaking passes for the Brighouse strikers to run riot.
The goals, including two from Max Lister and Jordan Taylor, effectively ended the game as a contest by the 40th minute and when South Leeds attempted to fight back in the second half defender Dominic Moore was outstanding to snuff out some dangerous attacks.
Brighouse goalkeeper Benedict Barron was finally beaten in the last minute as the home team grabbed a consolation.
GREETLAND Goldstars under 11 Stars made it two wins and two clean sheets in succession with a hard fought 2-0 victory over Norristhorpe.
After a goalless first half, the Stars took the lead when Will Ackroyd hit home from close range.
A well organised Stars defence kept the visitors at bay before Adam Bairstow's long range free kick ensured the victory.
HAFC under 12s battled back twice to win through to the third round of the WRCFA Skipton Building Society Junior Shield with a 3-2 extra time win over Otley Town
Otley settled in to a good passing game and it took a fantastic reaction save from HAFC keeper Matthew Berry to keep the scores level.
Otley took the lead after hesitant defending but the lead was short lived as good work from Marcus Reynolds resulted in a chance for George Smith who lobbed the Otley goalkeeper to make.
However not long afterwards, Otley re-took the lead when a softly hit shot found its way in to the net.
HAFC started the second half better and created the best chances with Angus Maney striking a great free kick against the bar which bounced off the back of the goalkeeper and appeared to have crossed the line, but unfortunately, the referee didn't give it.
Then three minutes from the end of normal time Maney scored to send the game in to extra time.
After only two minutes of extra time, HAFC went ahead for the first time when Marcus Reynolds scored from close range.
Greetland Goldstars crashed out of the County Cup 3-2 to Alverthorpe after a last minute goal in extra time.
After a goalless first half, Alverthorpe who took the lead from the spot after a Greetland player handled in the area. Keeper De Vito went the right way but just failed to get a hand to it.
Goldstars piled on the pressure and soon went back level when a great strike Jake Marshall was cleared from behind the line and the goal was given.
Ross Craig was then adjudged to have brought a player down in the box and again De Vito went the right way, but could not get a near a good penalty.
Greetland were awarded a penalty with a handball in the Alverthorpe area and up stepped Lewis Scott to smash home the equaliser.
Greetland controlled extra time, but could not convert their chances and were made to pay when a towering kick from the visitors' keeper caught the home side flat and the Alverthorpe striker slid it home.
Todmorden Borough continued their impressive start to the season with a 6-1 victory at Northowram.
The first half was a very close contest which Boro just managed to edge 21 courtesy of goals from Thomas Heys and Evan Jarman.
Borough looked stronger as the game progressed adding further goals from Jarman, Tommy Few and Thomas Heys before Evan rounded off the scoring to claim his hat trick.
Northowram continued to work hard and forced a number of good saves from keeper Joe Battersby and also a clearance off the line by George Hodkinson.
THE Halifax & District FA Minor Representative Squad (u17s) start their West Riding County Minor Cup campaign this Sunday with a home tie against Huddersfield FA.
The match will be played at Natty Lane, Illingworth at 2pm and everyone is welcome to come along and support the team in their quest to win the trophy for the first time since 1979.
