STAINLAND Stags under 16s started their season with an excellent 34-20 win over Crofton.
Crofton started strongly and scored 10 points without reply to open up a decent lead.
Stags hit back with a fine move that saw Max Duffy and Matty Bland combine to send Josh Holden in for a try which he also converted.
Crofton scored again to s
tretch their lead to 16-6 before Jack Brown weighed in with the first of his three tries after good work from Lodge and Smith.
That made it 16-10 to Crofton at the break after which Stainland began to impose themselves on the game.
Jason McCulloch was held up short before Brown darted over for his second, Holden converting to level the scores.
Liam Smith put Stainland ahead for the first time when he barged over before Holden crossed again, outpacing the defence for a try which he also improved.
Brown went in for his hat-trick after outpacing the defence, making the score 30-16 in Stainland's favour, before McCulloch scored his second try after being set up by second row partner Paul O'Sullivan.
Crofton staged a late rally but their final try was not enough to overhaul Stainland.
A superb team ethic and high workrate were the main reasons behind Elland's 22-8 victory at Hunslet.
The outcome could have been even better had the referee not disallowed what appeared to be two perfectly good Chris Robinson tries.
The game was pretty tight until the second half with the hosts taking a 4-0 half time lead.
However, the second half belonged to Elland and they were on level terms when Fred Walker hit a superb short ball through a hole and went on to score, Brad Radcliffe adding the extras to give the visitors the lead.
Elland were now finding gaps and Cameron Robertson was the next over after the ball was moved to the right for a good try, Radcliffe again adding the extras to make the score 12-4.
Jordan Sykes was next to cross in the corner before Walker crossed again, Radcliffe adding the extras before the hosts grabbed the final try.
SIDDAL under 11s continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 36-30 victory at Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks.
Siddal started confidently with a powerful opening try from Nathan Bell to which Hillsborough responded with a try of their own.
Lewis Hosty fought back with two full pitch runs, both resulting in tries, but, despite heroic defending from Matthew Wilkes, Michael Reynolds, Leo Dow and Matthew Bean and two further tries from Luke Warner and Edward Ainley, Siddal were trailing by six points.
Skipper Connor Cox led a determined Siddal into the second half which produced a defence Hillsborough were unable to penetrate.
Hosty bagged his second try and powerful driving from Alfie Dow, Lewis Ainley, Josh Ricketts and Harris Abbott enabled Edward Ainley to cross the line for a fifth.
KING Cross Park under 13s saw their first game end in a 22-20 defeat by Meltham All Blacks.
Meltham started and finished the game the stronger of the two sides, scoring in the first and last two minutes of the game.
