I find it hard to describe in words how good was the performance of the musical “The Coiners” performed by pupils of Old Town Primary School at Wainsgate Chapel last week. It was written by Jo Buckley one of the teachers and the cast
and choir were made up of Year 4 and Year 3 pupils respectively. It was original, creative, well written and excellently performed by the children, who have been studying the history of The Cragg Vale Coiners this term.

As Alan Fowler the retiring chairman of governors said after the performance : “I don’t need any league tables to tell me that Old Town School is an excellent school”, and on the evidence on show who could disagree with him. The whole event was completely developed by the school. Written by a teacher with exceptional talents, costumes made by support staff, scenery made by staff and pupils and it was performed very well by the children. No points towards league tables but a thoroughly enjoyable experience for those involved in the production, and those lucky enough to witness the end result. The children will undoubtedly be richer as a result of their involvement in this project.
