Back, after 30 years to join Sing Live choir!
TWO retirees who hadn't sung since school have the daunting task of singing with a big band when they take to the stage on Sunday.
Judith Rowley and Adrienne Siddall will join more than 100 local singers as part of the Sing Live choir at Leeds Town Hall.
They joined the choir's Halifax rehearsals a year ago after seeing an advert in the Courier, and both have seen their vocal talents go from strength to strength.
Adrienne, from Lightcliffe, first heard about the choir, which aims to spread the joy of singing, from an ex-colleague.
She said: "He and his wife joined the Sheffield group a couple of years ago and had sung in Sheffield City Hall. Then when I saw in the Courier Sing Live was coming to Halifax I felt I had to give it a try.
"I haven't sung since the school choir 30 years ago, but I'm really enjoying the big band rehearsals. It's great fun, but challenging."
Judith, from Ripponden, last sang in her church choir 40 years ago. She said: "I'm getting so much out of singing. It's stress relieving, fun and expressive, and I'm learning all the time."
Sing Live was set up 10 years ago by founders John Morris and Linda Metcalfe and brings together hundreds of people for regular concerts and rehearsals.
There are nine groups in England, Northern Ireland and the USA and members have sung all over the world, with recent performances at the Vatican, in Rome, New York, the Royal Albert Hall, and Disneyworld, Florida.
The Halifax singers will be on stage at Leeds Town Hall on Sunday (June 21) at 7.30pm, singing the music of the Big Bands including a tribute to the 'Rat Pack' as well as Robbie Williams, Ray Charles and Harry Connick Junior.
For more information or to join, contact the Sing Live office 01609 780315. There are no auditions and singers undergo a three month professional training programme to prepare for the performance.
