Charity Dreamgirls come home
HAalifax shoppers will be able to celebrate American Independence Day with a special event at the town's Woolshops tomorrow.
A preview concert with The Charity Dreamgirls – plus some special guest musicians – will be taking place from 10am to 3pm.
Peter Jones, from TV's X Factor singing show, will be on keyboards.
Charity Dreamgirls founder Kate Hardcastle says: "Singer-songwriter Peter was a hit on the show as part of the group 2 To Go. Peter has overcome his blindness to become a prolific performer in his own right.
"Mentored by Louis Walsh on the show, Peter was a favourite of judge, Simon Cowell, who was anxious for him to start a solo career."
The Charity Dreamgirls are an award-nominated community organisation raising awareness for three selected charities a year.
Originally formed in Halifax, the team have gained national recognition with events at the Trafford Centre and in London and Nottingham.
With patrons including soul legend Jaki Graham and Calderdale businessman Terry George, the girls regularly appear on TV and radio. Kate, recently shortlisted as Yorkshire Woman of The Year, leads a hard-working committee raising money this year for Homestart, Help For Heroes and The Alzheimer's Society. The event at the woolshops, the first of its kind, will be the official launch for the Charity Dreamgirls' concert at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, on Saturday, September 26, featuring X Factor's Laura White and soul singer Jaki Graham. Other celebrity names will soon be announced.
On her recent visit to the UK on the Motown Legends tour, original Charity Dreamgirls supporter Martha Reeves described the organisation as a "beautiful concept".
Music will be played throughout the day by the musicians and teams from the 2009 charities will be there to raise awareness. The event is free but shoppers are welcome to donate.
