landlady Julie Cooper will be celebrating with regulars after the Murgatroyd Arms, Skircoat Green, Halifax, was voted Heat 3 winner in the Courier Pub of the Year 2012.
Voting was close but the Murgatroyd managed to pip Shelf’s Bottomley’s Arms into second place.
Julie’s pub will now receive a commemorative plaque and a place in the grand final in late June.
The competition, sponsored by Halifax company, Brigg’s Priestley, is now nearing the end of the heat stages. Heat 4 voting is now open for pubs in the HX4 and HX5 postcode areas.
And nominations are being sought for the last heat – Heat 6 – covering the HX6 area.
The overall winner will be crowned Courier Pub of the Year 2012 and be presented with a “Love Your Local” cup and an external banner.
