Cirque de Glace: Spectacular ice show which beats the lot

Cirque de Glace The Victoria Theatre, Halifax

ICE shows have been put on at the Victoria before but this one beats the lot.

It's a spectacular affair and visually stunning, the skills of the Russian Ice Stars combining perfectly with some amazing circus-style performances.

Swing acts and aerial acrobatics are performed above the stage which has been extended and transformed into an ice rink.

A truck outside the theatre provides the refrigeration for the ice.

How some of the performers don't end up flying off the stage is remarkable as they gyrate around into spins and leaps at high speed in a confined space.

Fire effects, spectacular lighting and video projection help to make this an unforgettable theatrical experience.

The sound levels go up with drumming and percussion in some scenes reminiscent of Japanese Taiko.

A narration provides the background to the theme running through the show starting with the creation of our planet, man's evolution, his journey to the limits of technology and beyond and a future fraught with imponderables.

The show is on at the Victoria until Sunday.
