Bring dumpers before the courts
Mattresses, tyres, bits off old cars, chemical drums and animal carcasses. Just some of the masses of items which are left strewn across our beautiful countryside.
Why do they do it? The fly-tippers who leave their waste to spoil the outdoors for others.
It is not as if we do not have official waste sites. And a lot of the rubbish dumped on the moors would even be taken away free from homes by the council if someone would be bothered just to ring in and make the request.
Grot spot hotspots are being created around the area. One thoughtless individual dumps their unwanted belongings by the side of the road and other selfish folk then think it is okay to add to the pile.
It is the job of Calderdale Council environmental health officer David Dunbar to trace the culprits. Thankfully he takes great pride in his work to keep the countryside clean.
It is hard to fathom why these litterbugs give him so much work to do. But it would be marvellous to hear of some of these people being caught and some of those splendid sentences – up to 50,000 fines or five years in prison – being handed out.
Now that really would make the work of flytipping detective Dunbar worthwhile.
