Just the ticket for commuters

Calderdale's newest bar is just the ticket for the region's train commuters.

And a boost for travellers at a time when disatisfaction with the rail system is at an all-time high.

It has taken 10 years but Chris and Andrew Wright are now the proud owners of the empty former ticket office at Sowerby Bridge, which they will open in the summer as The Jubilee Refreshment Rooms.

They will serve breakfasts in the mornings and real ale until 11pm.

But this is no ordinary job for the pair. As ardent trainspotters, it is also a dream come true.

They and their pals will now be able to sip a pint in the comfort of their own premises and easily catch the numbers of passing locomotives. Sheer bliss if that's what you are into.

It is also a boost for those arriving and departing from Sowerby Bridge, a desolate station at night time.

And further cheer comes from down the line between Elland and Brighouse where work to repair the track, damaged by a land slippage, is progressing way ahead of schedule.

Railwaymen have been working night and day on the Calder Valley route, which could be open by the end of March rather than the predicted six months.

In turn this will allow the free flow of trains from Hebden Bridge via Sowerby Bridge to Leeds again.

Tremendous news for everyone including Chris and Andrew.

Worth raising your glass to.
