Let's get behind Armed Forces

THERE has never been a more opportune time in recent history to celebrate the selfless task undertaken by our Armed Forces.

They daily put their lives on the line in hostile, far-flung places like Afghanistan and Iraq.

This Saturday towns and cities across Britain will raise a cheer to those who have fought, those who are fighting and those who lost their lives for Queen and country.

A day when for once, as a special commemorative Union Flag flies on public buildings across the nation, the apologists for foreign and military policy can take gardening leave and let the population as a whole show their appreciation.

A day when people can unashamedly take pride in being British.

And more importantly show the kind of solidarity that gives our young men and women the courage to carry out their jobs in the professional manner we have come to expect.
