What will happen to Weymouth?

AFTER a couple of years of speculation about their financial stability, Weymouth FC finally look like they are on the brink.

I never liked going to the Dorset club, it is a shocking place to get to.

But I have to admit to feeling sorry for the latest club to feel the financial pinch.

Things have been going wrong for a while for the Terras but it really came to a head at the weekend when they were forced to field the youth team against Rushden & Diamonds in a Blue Square Premier clash.

Inevitably, the Diamonds hammered the youngsters, running out 9-0 winners after scoring at regular intervals from the eight to the 88th minutes.

The question is, what happens now.

The club is issuing one million 50 pence shares in a bid to stave off bankruptcy with debts of 300,000.

But given that just 967 turned up for the game at the weekend, relying on the fans appears to be a forlorn hope.

I fear they will be the latest club to go to the wall.

And given that looks like being the case, how will the FA deal with them.

FC Halifax Town fans will certainly be watching with interest after seeing their debt ridden club relegated from Blue Square Premier to Unibond One North last summer.

Anything less for the Terras, should they eventually fold, will surely be greeted with dismay in West Yorkshire.

Stand by for the Dave Challinor rocket at the Shay on Saturday when Colwyn Bay come to town.

The defender's long throw helped propel Tranmere Rovers up the divisions a few years ago and he caused the FC Halifax Town defence plenty of problems in north Wales last weekend.

I was told that in one away game this season he sneaked through an open gate to get an extra run up for one of his deliveries.

But when Bay were awarded a throw in a similar position later in the game he discovered the gate he had used had been locked.

Given the amount of building work going on at the Shay he may find his run ups a little restricted in front of the East Stand.

He might be required to don a hard hat to achieve maximum distance.

The one-time most exciting Premier League title race for years looks like becoming a procession as the challengers disappear one by one.

Liverpool's failure to beat Manchester City, a team with an appalling record on the road, at Anfield on Sunday has all but ended their hopes you would have thought.

Twenty-four hours earlier, Aston Villa's slim hopes took a knock when they lost to Chelsea whose own hopes are, at best, slim.

That leaves the way clear for Manchester United to go on and claim the crown.

Rafael Benitez has refused to rule out a Liverpool win in the race, but he is kidding himself.

And the final nail in the Reds' coffin will come when they play Manchester United on March 14.
