Comedy cavalcade on the way

CALDERDALE'S summer comedy capers have paved the way for an autumn of laughter at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax.

Big-name acts including Jimmy Carr, Rob Brydon, Joe Pasquale and Barry Cryer will bring their individual brands of belly-laughs to the town during September and October.

They follow comedians including Jo Caulfield, Justin Moorhouse, Robin Ince and Charlie Chuck who formed part of the Halifax Comedy Festival at four venues across the town.

The theatre's marketing manager John Sell says: "The first ever Halifax Comedy Festival finished last Saturday in a crescendo of laughter.

"Over the previous eight days, audiences of all ages were in stitches as an international line-up of comedians took to the stage at the Victoria Theatre, Dean Clough, Square Chapel and the Piece Hall.

"Feedback has been phenomenal and many requests have already been received to run another comedy festival next year. The organisers are hoping to repeat this success and work is already under way.

"The Victoria Theatre's autumn season includes a fantastic range of comedy including Rob Brydon, Sammy J in the Forest of Dreams, Joe Pasquale, Jimmy Carr, Stephen K Amos, Barry Cryer and the Chuckle Brothers, culminating in an hilarious, brand new and very funny pantomime, Cinderella."
