Back in the eighties the Crossleys Bar of Dean Clough was one of Halifax’s hippest nightspots.

And now nearly 30 years since it first opened, a brand new ‘John Crossley’ bar will attempt to make its mark on the scene.

Although much smaller than the original, offering just one floor opposed to three, the new bar - which is situated next to the Design House - hopes to build up a reputation as great as its past.

Owner Lee Marshall, 42, is excited for tonight’s big opening which will include various bands and is expected to attract up to 300 people.

He said: “The reason why it’s called the John Crossley Bar, two reasons - obviously John Crossley was the owner of the mill and secondly to try and refresh peoples minds - the good old days were the Crossley’s days.”

Lee - who also runs the restaurant next door - wanted to make a point that his new bar is nothing like the Design House, and actually competing with the likes of Wetherspoons, offering beer for £2.50 a pint.
