Eating in: How to make penne pasta casserole and tropical fruit smoothie

Luddenden Foot Junior and Infant School pupils know their way around the kitchen - as two of them prove here in our video.

Eleven-year-old Jack Prince's speciality is his luscious penne pasta casserole.

And fellow pupil Bethan Binns, 9, is a dab hand at her terrific tropical fruit smoothie.

Luddenden Foot's luscious penne pasta casserole

Ingredients

A splash of oil

1 medium onion (chopped)

2-3 garlic cloves (chopped)

150g penne pasta

Dry mixed herbs

Grated cheddar cheese

500g minced beef

Salt to taste

2 OXO cubes

Tinned chopped tomatoes

Method

1. Chop and fry onion and garlic in a little oil

2. Add mince and cook until brown

3. Stir in the tinned chopped tomatoes

4. Add dry mixed herbs and 2 OXO cubes

5. Stir the mixture together and simmer for approximately 10 minutes

6. Drain the partially-cooked pasta and add to the mince mixture

7. Put the mixture into a baking dish and top with grated cheese

8. Cook in the oven at gas mark 7 - 350f/180c

Terrific tropical fruit smoothie

Ingredients

1 mango, peeled and seeded

1 papaya, peeled and seeded

1/2 cup fresh strawberries

2/3 cup orange juice

10-15 ice cubes

Method

Place the mango, papaya, strawberries, orange juice and ice cubes in an electric blender. Process until the ingredients are smooth, or make a fruit salad.
