Health and beauty: It's time to treat your feet
WHICH part of our body do we tend to take for granted?
Our poor feet, of course. This is despite the fact they take more hammering than, say, our face or hands, because we literally stand on them all day and party on them all night.
But all is about to change this summer, thanks to fashion. According to stylists, shoes are the new handbags and sandals (gladiator or embellished) are the must-have items we all need in our wardrobes.
It follows, then, that all eyes are on feet and leading the way in the beautiful feet stakes are our favourite celebrities.
Stars like Madonna, Kylie, Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham are all raving about a phenomenal new product from American nail company Creative (now known as CND) called Cucumber Heel Therapy.
This supercharged moisturiser, which contains aloe vera, cucumber extract and chamomile, is a bit like a miracle cream in that it gets rid of dry, cracked heels in an instant.
It's used in the SpaPedicure from CND which is not only wonderfully relaxing but leaves feet in the most amazing condition. The pedicure uses quartz crystals, mineral salts, marine botanicals and other natural ingredients to exfoliate, nourish and soften even the roughest skin.
It is one-and-a-half hours of pure heaven and going down great guns at Vanessa Buckley's nail salon, which she runs from her home in Minister Close, Greetland. "Feet are on show in a big way this summer and women are following the lead of celebrities and making sure their feet look the part.
"Nothing looks as bad as cracked heels and shabby feet in a nice pair of summer sandals or flip flops," says Vanessa, who prefers feet to hands any day.
The pedicure, which includes a soak, exfoliation, foot mask, a massage using a rice bran, sandalwood and ylang-ylang and nail enamel, is also popular, according to Vanessa, because of the credit crunch.
"Women might not be going on holiday or getting a new car but they are making up for it by getting lots of pampering treats. Almost every beauty or nail salon will tell you business is booming despite the recession."
She has sold out of the Cucumber Heel Therapy (a new supply arrives soon) and is not surprised.
"It really is an amazing product. You only need a tiny amount and the difference is unbelievable." It can be used at home while you sleep and is also good for knees and elbows.
Vanessa says the trend for nail art has shifted from the hands to the feet and colour, patterns and jewels are huge.
"Yellow is the colour of the moment, often mixed with other brights like turquoise, and brightly coloured leopard print is also popular along with golds."
The SpaPedicure starts at 18. For more details ring Vanessa on 07796688571.
