The beauty of fish roe

IT appears we women will do anything to hold back the years.

Even to the extent of smearing eggs from a bottom-feeding fish on our faces.

The Caviar Facial, which has been the beauty fad of pampered luvvies in Beverly Hills for some time, has arrived in Calderdale.

Caviar is the processed, salted roe of certain species of fish, most notably the sturgeon and the salmon.

It is a delicacy which is eaten as a garnish or a spread, but what many don't realise is that it is rich in essential proteins, amino acids, vitamins and minerals and can repair and strengthen damaged skin cells restoring a youthful radiance to the skin.

"Caviar has a cell structure that is very similar to human collagen," says beauty therapist Rosanna Groves, who has brought the Matis caviar treatment to this area. "And every time I do a caviar facial I am amazed by the results."

it goes without saying that this is a luxurious, somewhat extravagant treatment. It is 75 minutes of pure bliss that starts with a welcome massage and usually ends with the client asleep on the couch.

It includes a clean, a peel and a massage. After that it is on to the caviar, which is not recognisable as fish eggs. The precious ingredient is mixed with marine collagen and freeze dried to preserve its intensity nourishing properties and the pads are only activated during application, ensuring you get the most benefit.

All the products used have got caviar and marine collagen in them but there is no fishy smell I promise, and at no point are you tempted to ask for a cracker to snack on the overmatter on your face.

As well as the facial there are lots of products to use at home but they don't come cheap with prices ranging from 29.36 for the cleanser to 64.60 for the day cream.

A one-off facial costs 49.50 while a course of 12 costs 550, but this includes two free facials and 100 worth of caviar products.

As well as leaving skin smooth, soft and hydrated, the facial plumps out wrinkles and is popular with lots of celebrities including Jennifer Aniston. Rosanna is having an open evening at her salon, Creative Beauty in Stainland to introduce clients to the caviar facial and a new machine, SK4 Skin Solutions, she has just taken delivery of.

The SK4 is four machines in one because it offers four different treatments, a sonic peel, galvanic current, microwave current and ultrasound. You can have all four in one 60-minute treatment. The machine is used in conjunction with Matis products and costs 55.

The open evening is on Tuesday April 21, from 5pm - 9pm and includes wine, nibbles, demonstrations and mini treatments. For more details ring Creative Beauty on 01422 310983.
