South Africa

In 1936 my parents, Edna Howarth and Bernard Limbert, were married in King Cross,Halifax. They then emigrated to South Africa on the mail ship Edinburgh Castle mail ship.

They settled in Johannesburg, where they had three children, Frank, Clare and Lindsay. Edna and Bernard passed away in 1967. Frank and Clare recently emigrated to the US to join their children there.

I, with my wife, Helen, and Rustin, the youngest of our four sons, and his wife, Natasha, run the Limbert Arms pub and restaurant in a suburb of Pretoria called Mnandi. We have clients from Yorkshire and other parts of England as well as several from Scotland.

In the valley of Mnandi lies a little piece of Yorkshire heritage.
