The Actors’ Workshop Youth Theatre, Halifax, put on a 17th-century comedy, The Rover in 1988. The play, a famously early work by a woman, Aphra Behn, is a merry romp that combines the exploits of the title figure, Willmore, with questions about the status of women in society.

Willmore is a rakish naval captain who falls in love with Hellena, who has set out to experience love before her brother sends her to a convent. Willmore was played by Nicholas Webster, pictured third from the left, with Nicki Hughes, Isobel Birtwhistle, as Hellena, and Neil Archer.
