Rishworth School started a gymnastics club as early as 1957 and in the five years that followed the club won many honours, including the Yorkshire Open Championships in 1962 and the public schools’ championships three years running.
In that time the school also produced eight junior and two senior internationals.
In 1962, when this picture was taken, 11 club members went to Schaffhausen, Switzerland, to take part in competions and displays. The 11 who travelled were coach Alec Smith, captains David Worsman and Lindsey Barrett, Nik Whone, Russell Owen, Larry Bottomley, Jill Rogerson, Amanda Ramsden, Julie Harrison, Susan Kimberley and Diane Smith.
