Have your say

This photo of Lewins AFC in 1973-4 was sent in by Stuart Porteus (pictured, standing, third from the left), of Roundhill, Holmfield, Halifax. With him are manager David Jackson, John Nelson, Rod Owen, Stephen Kirkbride, Brian Manson, Tony Buckley and assistant manager Jon Robey. In front are John Crowther, John Wadsworth, captain Duncan Bower, Les Canham, David O’Keefe and Stevie Page.

The team started out at Square Church, Halifax, where most of the players were members of the 4th Halifax Boys’ Brigade company. In 1972 the team moved on to the Lewins pub in Bull Green and played in the West Yorkshire League until the late ’70s, when the league decided against pub teams and the Lewins lads renamed their team Willowfield Athletic. The club disbanded in about 1980.
