The seeds of success could soon be sown following proposals for a new allotment site in the district.

Green-fingered gardeners might soon be able to enjoy a new site if plans to transform an unused piece of land are put into action.

The land - close to the Belle Vue estate in Shelf - could home a new allotment and coordinators are appealing for those interested to come forward.

Coun Peter Caffrey (Con, Northowram and Shelf), who is hoping to get the project started, said: “It’s often quite difficult for people to get an allotment site and there seems to be a shortage of them.

“I’d like to make the land a managed site, but we need the support of the residents so they can start up a body and manage it themselves.

“The land needs some groundwork and improvement, but without a group we can’t do it.”
