School shows its all-round skills
A Summer Spectacular Exit 25 Theatre School Square Chapel
A tremendous amount of work went into Exit 25's production.
Formed in 2000, the school makes drama its speciality and the extracts performed – directed by founder Julie Fountain – provided opportunities for students at all levels.
Hard-edged, disturbing contemporary issues of family breakdown and child and drug abuse were uncompromisingly tackled in A State Affair, which found the young victims literally picking up the china pieces of their fractured lives. Their eloquent performances had no need of relentless piano music to make the point.
Pocket Money, with some fine comic timing and droll body language, revealed the lighter side of family life, Tich Oldfied People and Body Talk allowed quirky imagination full rein. Under Pressure explored the dramatic possibilities of the David Bowie song and Annie and Snow White showcased the school's younger members.
Dance and song are integral to the school and street dance styles were energetically displayed.
Soloist Jody Townsend was touching in Somewhere Over The Rainbow and Bethany Martin brought the house down in the finale as fiesty Tracey in Hairspray.
