WYS on Show Victoria Theatre, Halifax: Gang show brings warmth to winter
IN the perfect antidote to the wet winter weather, youngsters brought some much-needed warmth and cheer to Halifax with the West Yorkshire Scouts' County Gang Show.
The evening was a mixture of music and comedy, performed with bags of enthusiasm and lashings of humour by the 100-strong cast of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, aged from seven to 25.
The promising young stars gave confident renditions of tunes from singers ranging from Louis Armstrong to Christina Aguilera.
Sketches, including a Ghostbusters spoof, brought howls of laughter from the hundreds of children and their families who packed into the theatre for a thoroughly engaging and interactive show with plenty of fun, games and sing-alongs.
Routines were imaginatively choreographed which, together with a host of creative stage sets, was thanks to the hard work of volunteers during the three months of rehearsing.
A collection was held during the interval for next year's Project Nepal, when 30 scouts from across the region will visit a remote Himalayan village to help build a classroom.
It follows the success of last year's trip, when a hostel was created – shown in one particularly moving scene, where children assembled a giant jigsaw picturing the finished building.
It seemed to epitomise the whole ethos of the Scouting movement and the show too.
It is young people working together and helping others – all while having a riotously good time.
