A HALIFAX shop that helped mould a multi-million-pound international enterprise is undergoing a £100,000 facelift.
Staff at the Yorkshire Linen Co, King Edward Street, are this week taking a holiday while the shopfitting is carried out, but will be back in store next week receiving new stock and creating displays ready for the reopening on May 24.

The company
was started in the town 15 years ago by husband and wife team Ross and Kirsteen Leventhal and from humble beginnings has grown to a 32-store business employing more than 250 people.

Mr and Mrs Leventhal set up their home linen business in a small shop in Market Street, opening another couple of shops over the next two years.

The company, which now operates throughout Yorkshire, the north east and Liverpool, stocks more than 6,000 product lines.

It chalked up a milestone last month when its turnover since inception topped £100 million.

Four years ago ex-patriates in Spain were given the chance to buy British bedding and linen when the first Yorkshire Linen Co store in mainland Europe was opened in Ciudad Quesada on the Costa Blanca.

A year later the second store was opened in Puerto Mazarron on the Costa Calida.

It has opened further stores in Benidorm, Javea, Torrevieja, San Javier and Fuengirola to become the largest British home furnishing supplier on the Costas.

Further expansion into Europe followed with the opening of a store in Almancil, Portugal.

A second Portuguese store is due to open in Pera in June.

Mr Leventhal said the £100,000 upgrade of the Halifax store would "reflect the new image of the business as it prepares for its next stage of expansion in the UK," with beds in addition to the range of bedding and other home furnishings.
